Bombo Quarry, Kiama, Australia

Bombo Headland Quarry is one kind of an unreal place. Spectacularly shaped rock columns shooting high in the air and make you feel like being on the moon. At the same time, you can truly feel the power of the ocean smashing against those rocks. It seems like an endless battle between water and stone. It is fascinating to sit there for a little while and watch them fighting.

Sugarloaf Rock(stormy), Dunsborough, Australia

First of all, I was surprised how big the Sugarloaf Rock is. A giant of a stone sitting in a perfectly, half-round shaped bay surrounded by big boulders. Second of all, the weather couldn't have been any better. A storm was coming in at the horizon, and the sky turned black. At the same time, the wind picked up and changed that lovely bay in a devil's pools. The power of the ocean was almost scary. I struggled to find a foreground where I could show the strength of the water but be safe at the same time. Finally, I came up with this composition and caught the last good light of the day.

Bermagui, Australia

Not often can you find boulders placed so perfectly to each other. The quick running water is turning waves into smooth lines dancing around the rocks. The beautiful sunrise is completing the scene. A truly peaceful morning at the south coast of New South Wales.

Jervis Bay, Australia

Hyams Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to. Hundreds of meters of white sand located in the famous Jervis Bay on the south coast of New South Wales. A place to relax and forgot about the world and all the problems. I took the photo just before this enormous ship left the bay and drove right into the sunrise. It was fun to imagine where the ship possibly would go.

Horse Head Rock, Bermagui, Australia

The majestic Horse Head Rock was the cherry on top of my trip down the coast. Exploring this almost untouched coastline was one of my best experience in 3 years in Australia. One beach after another and unique rock formations everywhere. A dream of every photographer. Playing around with the shutter speed and turning water into clouds by having a huge, natural stone horse in the back was almost too much. Plus, I couldn't have asked for better conditions. I love the cloud formations and the warm light hitting the scenery.

Bermagui II, Australia

This photo was taken during day time, as I was scouting Horse Head Rock. I was wandering up and down the beach, and all of a sudden, I recognized those perfectly placed stones and the beautiful lines the water created by running back in the ocean. After taking the first test shot, I couldn't walk away. I was in a tunnel and shot this scene the whole afternoon. I ended up liking it so much that I went back for sunrise. Kiama, Australia

The start of my trip down the south coast of New South Wales started with modest weather conditions. In fact, after five cloudy sunrises, I was pretty frustrated. But sometimes, appearances are deceptive. Beauty is hidden everywhere, as you can see in this example of a slightly different sunrise photo. I love the drama in the clouds and the arrow-similar wave rolling up the shore.

Camel Rock, Bermagui, Australia

Camel Rock was on kind of a place and defiantly the most challenging shoot in a while. Even if the photo might not look as windy as it was, but taking this photograph took me to my limits. I struggled to find an appropriate foreground to include the movement of the water in my composition. I ended up walking closer and closer to the ocean, and as I finally found something to work with, I got hid by every second wave. I was forced to raise my tripod serval times over my head while I got soaked by incoming waves. What an adventure. Especially at 6 in the morning.

Cape Reinga, New Zealand

Cape Reinga is located far north of the north island of New Zealand and was my first destination on my road trip through NZ. The first time I went up there, I didn't take any photos. I was just stunned by the beauty of the place and felt more like sitting back and taking it in. You can see how the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet and create this swirl of currents. It looks like a border going right through the ocean - waves coming from different sites and breaking far away from the shore. Surreal to watch and definitely worth visiting.

Cape Reinga II, New Zealand

According to Maori mythology, the spirits of the dead travel to Cape Reinga on their journey to the afterlife to leap off the headland and climb the roots of the 800-year-old pohutukawa tree and descend to the underworld to return to their traditional homeland of Hawaiki, using the Te Ara Wairua, the 'Spirits' pathway'. At Cape Reinga they depart the mainland. They turn briefly at the Three Kings Islands for one last look back towards the land, then continue on their journey. (source: Wikipedia)

Pancake Rocks, New Zealand

The Pancake Rocks at the west coast of the south island are an incredible example of what mother earth can create. The stones looking like layers stapled on top of each other. But in such a perfection that you could think it's made by mankind. During high tide, water gets pushed through several blowholes and shoots up high in the air. A true devils pool down there, and you imminently feel very small comparing to the power of the ocean.

Sugarloaf Rock(calm), Dunsborough, Australia

If you look around my gallery, you will find another shot of Sugarloaf Rock, a stormy day with unleashed power of the ocean. This time the weather has been slightly different, and the whole scene appeared peaceful and calm. It was interesting to see two different sides of the location. I can't decide which I liked more. Rottnest Island, Western Australia, Australia

Everyone who is in Perth should take a trip down to Rottnest Island. It's not just about the beautiful landscape it is also home to the world-famous Quokka. Quokkas are short-tailed scrub wallaby which living only on a few islands off the coast of Western Australia. Look them up on Google, and you and you will fall in love straight away.
